ShibataFenderTeam delivered Ocean Barriers for Canal Seine Nord Europe

Europe’s largest inland waterway network, the Canal Seine Nord Europe (CSNE) will connect the Seine and Upper Scheldt Basin in order to make those waterways accessible for modern ships up to 4.500 ton.

Before starting those renovation works, the weirs of Asper, Kerkhove and Oudenaarde in Belgium had to be renewed. The weirs are important to regulate the water level of the river. The project scope also included the installation of a floating protection barrier for each of the new weirs, in total 3 pieces, which were manufactured and delivered by ShibataFenderTeam. Our well-experienced Belgian Agent CGK Group supported us with their technical expertise and local contact to our client.

The floating protection barriers are of utmost importance to protect the new weirs in case a ship gets off course. They were designed with specified breaking shackles taking into account the new and larger ship size.

The demanding requirements by De Vlaamse Waterweg and contractor Jan de Nul were all fulfilled by ShibataFenderTeam:

  • ISO9001 certified
  • Barriers will be filled with foam of a density of 40kg/m³.
  • Chain has a minimum breaking load of at least 80 tons and is made in an ISO9001 certified factory.
  • Rescue lines will be attached to the complete barrier.
  • Hardware will be galvanized to ISO1461
  • Warranty time of 20 years

ShibataFenderTeam wishes De Vlaamse Waterweg successful operations of the new weirs. (#3706)
