SFT supplied Cone Fender Systems for new fertilizer pier in Puerto Quequén, Argentina

Puerto Quequén is located in the Argentine province of Necochea, Buenos Aires. The port city borders the Atlantic coast and the Quequén Grande River. With a population of about 14,500 inhabitants, it is one of Argentina's most important grain export ports.  

A new pier, built from scratch, was the first port infrastructure in Puerto Quequén in nearly 60 years. The construction of Pier Doce began during the term of Arturo Rojas, the current mayor of Necochea, and was inaugurated by Jorge Alvaro, the port's current president. 

The infrastructure project was carried out by the companies Glencore, Sprayers and the Asociación de Cooperativas Argentinas (ACA) on almost 6 hectares in areas 11 and 12 of Puerto Quequén. The investment value exceeded $40 million and created additional storage capacity of 24,000 m3 for liquid fertilizer and a cell to store approximately 76,000 tons of solid fertilizer. Along with the storage infrastructure, a new dock was built that has a depth of 50 feet (15 meters). Additionally dolphins and platforms were installed to handle higher loads. The constructions works were completed with new access points and a dock offering new parking capacity for 50 trucks. 

Our American SFT office was awarded to supply 4 sets of SPC 1400 Cone Fender Systems for the Pier Doce by the subcontractor Pilotes Trevi in late 2018. We also delivered 6 sets of T Head Bollards with a capacity of 100 tons. The fender systems were fully installed in mid-2019 and the completed Pier Doce was commissioned on December 2, 2020.
